Help Protect Our Sewer System – Please Do Not Flush Wipes or Use Detergent Pods

Dear Blue Heron Residents,

We are asking for your cooperation in helping protect our community’s sewer system.

Over the past several months, we have experienced multiple pump failures that have required costly repairs and replacements. The primary cause has been the flushing of disposable wipes and the use of laundry/dishwasher detergent pods. Although some manufacturers advertise these products as “flushable” or claim they dissolve in water, our experience has shown that they do not break down adequately in the sewer system. Instead, they clog pumps, damage equipment, and create expensive maintenance issues that ultimately affect our entire community.

A simple rule of thumb is:

Only flush human waste and toilet paper into the system.

Please NEVER flush:

  • Cooking grease or oil
  • Laundry or dishwasher detergent pods
  • Non-flushable wipes, including baby wipes and other wet wipes
  • Feminine hygiene products
  • Condoms
  • Dental floss
  • Diapers
  • Cigarette butts
  • Coffee grounds
  • Cat litter
  • Paper towels
  • Pharmaceuticals or medications
  • Household chemicals such as gasoline, motor oil, pesticides, antifreeze, paint, or paint thinners
  • Photographic solutions

These items should be disposed of properly in the trash or through appropriate recycling or hazardous waste disposal programs.

If possible, please reframe from using detergent Pod’s. We all know they are super convenient, but they do not break down adequately in the sewer system. They only melt into a slimy clog. Which backs-up and cause pump issues.

Your cooperation helps prevent sewer backups, equipment failures, and unnecessary repair costs. By following these simple guidelines, you can help keep Blue Heron’s sewer system operating safely and efficiently for everyone.

Thank you for your attention and cooperation.
